SiSCR cordially welcomed Prof. Yon Rojanasakul for a special seminar entitled “Nanomaterials and cancer stem cells”. Nanomaterials are being used in various industrial and biomedical applications, due to its unique mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. Prof. Rojanasakul’s current research focuses on the potential toxicity of nanomaterials, particularly carcinogenicity. His research team led by Dr. Sudjit Luanpitpong, currently a member of SiSCR, became the first to report the induction of cancer stem-like cells with malignant
properties by carbon nanomaterials. The key idea is not to prohibit the uses of nanomaterials, but to develop the prediction models to enable the design of safe nanomaterials for future use.
